Consumer Experience: Augmented Reality Biomaterials Sampler Study

We would like to invite people interested in discovering more about new biobased textiles in a research study conducted by UKRI Interdisciplinary Textiles Circularity Centre’s research team. This research aims to to understand important factors in sustainable clothing and textiles consumption and facilitate the development of a circular textile economy. We will investigate strategies to get people more involved in circular practices, with the help of digital technology.

WHO CAN TAKE PART

We would like to invite to this study anyone who is 18 years old or older and regularly purchases clothing and is able to provide their own consent.

PARTICIPATION

In this study, we’re using Augmented Reality to help people understand the fabrication processes of biobased circular textiles we’ve developed at TCC. We want to see if Augmented Reality can make it easier for people to grasp the value and importance of these sustainable materials for fashion-apparel.

If you volunteer to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following things:

You will be asked to appreciate and explore a number of samples of TCC’s biobased material, displayed on a shelf and inside an acrylic box.

You will be invited to explore a material sample further with the aid of a smartphone with a prototype augmented reality (AR) application developed by the TCC consortium. This application will present information about the fabrication processes behind the selected sample. The application will also gather data on how you interact with the AR application.

After that, you will be asked to answer a questionnaire about your experience. The questions will investigate your understanding of the materials, processes and possible uses, as well as explore wellbeing factors relevant to this experience. The experience will be audio and video recorded for further analysis.

The study lasts for a maximum of 30 minutes.

When: Tuesday 23rd Jan to Saturday 3rd February

Where: Regenerative Fashion Hub, Royal College of Art (Battersea Campus), Hangar Space in the Studio Building, 11 Howie Street, London SW11 4AS
