Self-constructing bacterial cellulose yarns

BBSRC Seminar: Designing living microorganisms: self-constructing bacterial cellulose fibres

Biologically derived materials need new, innovative manufacturing processes to allow them to be created in the most sustainable and circular way. Although there are routes to scalability for applying biomaterials to conventional textiles manufacturing; the opportunity to directly interact and design with the characteristics of the material is missed. Within this seminar Roberta Morrow will be discussing how designing with an understanding of biology and textile manufacturing can help engineer new sustainable material production systems.
